The Salisbury Police Department and Rowan County United Way are proud to announce the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) Grant Celebration to honor the achievements accomplished through the Summer West End programs. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, April 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hall Gym, 1400 W. Bank St., Ste. B.

Did you know that April is National Poetry Month? Rowan County poets are invited to participate in the first Sidewalk Poetry Project! The Public Arts Commission (PAC) modeled the Sidewalk Poetry Project after St. Paul, Minnesota, Santa Clarita, California and Cambridge, Massachusetts programs. The goal of the project is to celebrate Rowan County poets and create a trail of poems within Salisbury’s downtown.

In partnership with the Salisbury Public Arts Commission, the Salisbury Police Department will engage West End residents to paint on public crosswalks at the intersection of Lloyd and Horah in the West End neighborhood. The artwork will reflect the history, culture, and vibrancy of West End, and display creativity and community.

This month’s employee spotlight is Samira Wolf, a police officer with the Salisbury Police Department, serving as a member of the Adam Team.

The City of Salisbury is rolling up its sleeves and joining the NCDOT Litter Sweep from April 12-26 as part of the statewide effort to keep North Carolina clean. Over these two weeks, Salisbury will take action in three key ways.

Cheerwine has invited high school students across the Carolinas to showcase their creativity and regional pride with a T-shirt design contest for the upcoming 2025 Cheerwine Festival. With an open call to students to use mediums ranging from crayons and markers to digital design software, the contest sought original artwork spotlighting the essence of the Carolinas.

As temperatures drop, frozen pipes and leaks can lead to unexpected spikes in your water bill. Cold weather increases the risk of broken water lines, which can cause significant water loss and costly repairs.

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety and reduce speeding in the West End, the City of Salisbury is introducing a temporary neighborhood traffic circle at the intersection of Horah Street and Partee Street. This pilot project, installed from Wednesday, March 5 through Friday, March 14, aims to evaluate the effectiveness of traffic calming measures in the area.

This month’s employee spotlight is Rickey Walls, a 23-year city of Salisbury public works employee. Rickey currently works as a street crew leader, where he makes and hauls compost, manages special projects like the Greenway addition to Catawba, and operates various specialized equipment such as the excavator and motor grader.
