Civic and service organizations are encouraged to volunteer in groups of 10 people or more for at least one, three-hour period.
The Salisbury Community Appearance Commission and Salisbury Housing Advocacy Commission are now accepting BlockWork applications from Salisbury city neighborhoods through Friday, June 11. The 2021 BlockWork event has been set for Saturday, October 23, on, “National Make a Difference Day.”
Sonja Basinger is the environmental services manager for Salisbury-Rowan Utilities (SRU). In her role, Sonja serves as the department’s compliance officer. She performs internal audits for the department and provides technical assistance to divisions to ensure compliance with environmental permits. She also manages the water and wastewater labs, industrial pretreatment and FOG programs, and coordinates and instructs state approved Wastewater Operator Schools for SRU staff.
The City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation will offer summer camps for youths this year, with COVID-19 restrictions. Summer camp programs will be conducted with COVID-19 safety protocols in place and will follow recommendations from the CDC, state and local health officials.
Alexander, Neisler and Harris to Lead Organization Over Next Year
Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander will lead the N.C. League of Municipalities as president over the next year, following her election earlier this week.
Alexander was chosen by representatives from cities and towns across North Carolina via electronic vote held over several days, with her selection announced at NCLM’s virtual conference, CityVision 2021, held Tuesday through Thursday.

Jill Burch, the late Paul Fisher and Matthew Marsh have been named winners of the 2021 Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Humanitarian Award.
