2021 Salisbury Sculpture Show announces call for entries

The Salisbury Public Art Committee announces a call for entries for the 2021 Salisbury Sculpture Show. Entering its 13th year, the Salisbury Sculpture Show has featured artists from more than 10 states and has earned regional and national recognition. Artists are invited to submit their outdoor pieces for consideration in the award-winning art installation program by Monday, Dec. 21.

The 2020 General Election is approaching fast and with that, another important deadline will be here before we know it. That important date is Friday, Oct. 9. If you have not registered to vote by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, you will not be eligible to vote in the General Election held on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Serve Up Fire Safety In The Kitchen

Salisbury Fire Department will join the national campaign to celebrate Fire Prevention Week, Sunday, Oct. 4 - Saturday, Oct. 10.

The theme of the 2020 Fire Prevention week campaign is: “Serve up fire safety in the kitchen.” As cooking remains the leading cause of home fires, the goal is to focus on cooking fire safety involving cooking equipment and unattended cooking.

Downtown Salisbury, Inc. Announces Empire Hotel Redevelopment Request for Proposals

Downtown Salisbury, Inc. (DSI) has released a request for proposals (RFP) to qualified developers to purchase and redevelop the historic Empire Hotel located in downtown Salisbury. The newly-established Empire Hotel Redevelopment Task Force will be responsible for reviewing the proposals received electronically by the deadline of 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.

Don’t Let FOG Take Your Holiday Down The Drain!

As cooks gear up for the holiday season, Salisbury-Rowan Utilities has a few tips for discarding leftover Fats, Oils, Grease, also known as FOG. When fat, oil, grease and wax is poured or flushed down the drain it may not travel very far through your pipes. FOG will accumulate and stick to the pipe walls causing future sewer backups in your home, condominium, restaurant, or other buildings.
When FOG goes down the drain, it hardens and causes sewer pipes to clog. This can lead to a sanitary overflows (SSO) where raw sewage may back up into your home, lawn, neighborhood and streets. SSOs can cause health issues and sewer may even run into local water ways which can affect local drinking water quality.
If your pipes become clogged from putting FOG down the drain, it can be very expensive problem to fix. To avoid household and environmental damage as well as a costly bill, NEVER put FOG down the drain!

Here are a few tips:
- Allow grease and oil to cool. Can grease and then throw the can in the trash.
- Scrape food scraps in the trash.
- Don’t flush your FOG. Toilet pipes can get clogged too!
