Salisbury-Rowan Utilities has contracted with Vanguard Utility Service for the installation of an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system. Advanced metering technology enables the wireless transmission of water meter readings directly to the Salisbury Rowan Utilities from regional collectors located on existing water tanks and towers. This innovative system will collect multiple reads per day, allowing for better leak detection, increased billing accuracy, and improved customer service.
On Friday February 24, 2017 Salisbury Police arrested Tyler Aaimer Spencer Nichols, age 17 of 641 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury. He was charged with for 1 count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, 4 counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and 3 counts of larceny.
Fibrant, the first municipally-owned, citywide 10-gigabit fiber option network, has established a free Wi-Fi connection for Salisbury residents and visitors in Cannon Park at 600 Park Ave.
Salisbury’s iconic Bell Tower will ring again, hopefully in time for the traditional family New Year’s Eve celebration held at the site. The bell in the tower has not rung for several years because of structural decay. Repair of the 1892 tower has begun, thanks to a grant from the North Carolina Department of Commerce.
Nationwide initiative to provide play opportunities to youth in communities across America
Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander will host a free baseball and softball camp for local youth at Catawba College, Saturday, Aug. 27, as part of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) continued support of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) “PLAY BALL SUMMER” initiative.
The City of Salisbury has been awarded two separate grants totaling $131,562 for improvements along the Carolina Thread Trail which coincides with a portion of the Salisbury Greenway.
Downtown Salisbury, Inc. (DSI) has signed a real estate contract that may provide for the long-awaited redevelopment of the historic Empire Hotel on South Main Street.
