The Salisbury Fire Department will host its annual September 11th Memorial Service on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. at the Firefighters Memorial, 1402 South Main Street, Salisbury, NC.
The community is invited to attend this solemn event honoring the firefighters, police officers, military personnel, and citizens whose lives were lost during and as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
On the tragic morning, 2,977 people lost their lives, including 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and 55 military personnel who died while attempting to save others. Their sacrifice is remembered as one of the greatest demonstrations of courage and duty in modern history. Nearly 500 additional responders have died since, many from respiratory illnesses and emotional stresses related to their response at Ground Zero and other attack sites. The Salisbury Fire Department’s memorial acknowledges both the immediate and lasting toll of that day, paying tribute to all who answered the call and those who continue to bear its weight.
“The annual September 11th Memorial reminds us not only of the lives lost that day, but also of the lasting impact on the first responders who continued to sacrifice long after,” said Salisbury Fire Chief Robert Parnell. “This ceremony allows us to stand together as a community, honor their courage, and renew our commitment to never forget.”
This year’s service will follow the timeline of the events of September 11, 2001, extending over two hours to reflect key moments of the day. The public is encouraged to attend for as much time as they are able, with flexibility to come and go during the service.
