SALISBURY, N.C. (April 6, 2026) – The Salisbury Fire Department responded to a structural fire at 504 Union Heights Blvd at approximately 12:03 p.m. on Monday, April 6. Within four minutes of dispatch, units arrived to find a single-story duplex heavily involved in flames.
Firefighters immediately entered the structure to perform a primary search and fight the fire. Once inside they located and removed an unconscious male and immediately started life saving measures. Rowan County EMS arrived and continued the measures. Shortly after, they located an unconscious child inside the apartment. Firefighters and medical personnel initiated emergency measures at the scene before the victims were transported to Novant Rowan Regional Hospital. Both victims passed away from their injuries.
The Fire Department initiated a working fire and recall of off duty firefighters. The fire was declared under control shortly thereafter. Salisbury was assisted by Spencer, Granite Quarry, Rockwell City, East Spencer, Millers Ferry Fire Departments, and Rowan Rescue and Rowan County EMS. There were no firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation through the collaborative efforts of the Salisbury Fire Department, Salisbury Police Department, State Bureau of Investigation and North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal.
