The Salisbury Youth Council (SYC) held its End of the Year Celebration on Tuesday, May 12, recognizing student leaders for their service, leadership and impact throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
During the celebration, Mayor Tamara Sheffield welcomed council members, family members, and supporters. Seniors also delivered speeches reflecting on their time with the Salisbury Youth Council and the impact the organization has had on their lives and the community.
“This year showed the impact young people can make when they are given the opportunity to lead and serve,” said Salisbury Youth Council President Erin Augustson. “I want to thank the City of Salisbury for continuing to provide this opportunity for students. I also want to thank every Salisbury Youth Council member for their dedication throughout the school year. Together, we showed up in many ways, from participating in BlockWork to supporting other youth at Nazareth Child & Family Connection. SYC is a great program, and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to serve as president and be part of the positive change youth are making in our community. Thank you to our advisors, Jarmal Davis, Kaisha Brown and Jennifer Silvia, for their continued support and guidance.”
The program concluded with council members receiving awards for their contributions to the organization and the community.
Mikayla Johnson and Micah Lightfoot each received the Most Helpful Senior Award in recognition of their support, dedication and mentorship. The award also recognized the lasting impact their leadership has had on fellow council members and the future of the Salisbury Youth Council.
James “Jimmy” Wright received the Most Active Council Member Award for his commitment and engagement in helping advance the mission of the Salisbury Youth Council.
Samuel Fatović received The Growth Award for demonstrating exceptional personal and leadership growth during his time with the council.
