Get an inside look at local government through hands-on experiences
Have you ever wondered how clean water is delivered to your faucet, or how the Fire Department decides which trucks respond to certain calls? The City of Salisbury invites residents to discover the answers through the Fall 2026 Salisbury Citizen’s Academy.
This free, interactive program offers participants a behind-the-scenes look at City government through weekly sessions led by City staff. Participants will visit city facilities, explore essential services, and gain firsthand experience with the departments that serve the community every day.
From using thermal imaging equipment with the Fire Department to learning about parks, public safety, transportation, utilities, and economic development, each session is designed to provide a deeper understanding of how Salisbury operates.
The Citizen’s Academy is open to the public; enrollment is limited to 20 participants. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and priority is given to Salisbury residents.
Classes will be held Thursdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m. beginning September 3 and continuing through October 22. Dinner will be provided at every class.
Applications are open through August 7. Interested residents can apply at salisburync.gov/citizensacademy. Contact Tracey Keyes at (704) 638-5313 or tracey.keyes@salisburync.gov for more information.
