The Salisbury Fire Department offers tips for residents to stay safe as temperatures rise
As temperatures continue to rise, it’s important to take steps to protect yourself from heat-related illness, whether you’re working outdoors, attending community events, or enjoying time outside.
The Salisbury Fire Department reminds everyone to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, even before you feel thirsty. Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and wear lightweight, light-colored clothing along with sunscreen to protect your skin.
Be aware of the warning signs of heat exhaustion, which can include heavy sweating, dizziness, headaches, nausea, or weakness. If you or someone around you begins experiencing these symptoms, move to a cooler location, drink water, and seek medical attention if needed.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Signs may include confusion, loss of consciousness, or a high body temperature. If someone is showing symptoms of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.
A few simple precautions can make a big difference in staying safe and healthy during the summer months.
