Grammy-winning Blues Traveler, Spin Doctors to headline 2022 Cheerwine Festival

Cheerwine, the iconic 105-year-old soft drink, and its hometown of Salisbury will welcome two of the country’s favorite rock bands to the Hotwire Communication Stage as this year’s headliners.

Blues Traveler, the Grammy-winning quintet, is best known for their Top 40 singles "Run-Around,” "Hook,” and "But Anyway,” as well as their improvisational live shows. The Grammy-nominated Spin Doctors rose to fame for their 5x platinum album Pocket Full of Kryptonite and hits "Two Princes" and "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong.”

This month’s employee spotlight is Jake Sterling, Internal Services Manager for the City of Salisbury Public Works Department. For more than 25 years, Jake has worked for the City in various roles ranging from a mechanic, second shift supervisor, fleet supervisor and fleet manager.

Human Relations Council hosts educational support faith forum

The Covenant Community Connection (CCC), a subcommittee of the Salisbury Human Relations Council, hosts a “Supporting Public Education” workshop, Saturday, March 26, First Presbyterian Church, 308 W. Fisher St., from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Salisbury Police Department Press Release 03-01-2022

On February 28, 2022, at approximately 6:00 PM, a male subject, later identified as Bruce Richard Godwin (32 yrs old), approached a Salisbury Police Officer in the Police Department garage. The male subject advised that he had recently been hired by the Police Department and was there to obtain some of his equipment.

Salisbury Public Services now known as Public Works

The Salisbury public services department is now known as public works, effective immediately.

As Craig Powers takes the reigns this week as the department’s new director, and the administrative office shifts from 519 N. Fulton St. to W. 303 Franklin St., the name change better reflects the multi-dimensional services offered by the department.

“Many communities refer to their departments encompassing solid waste, public buildings maintenance and stormwater as public works,” said City Manager W. Lane Bailey. “With Craig moving into his new role, it was the ideal time to begin the transition to a more common name for this dedicated group of men and women.”

Despite departmental changes, residents will continue to call (704) 638-5260 for questions about garbage and leaf collection and bulky item pick up.

The public works name transition will continue through late 2020 as uniforms and signage are updated.
