Child Neglect Investigation

On Saturday, January 22, the Salisbury Police Department was made aware that a nonresponsive child was brought to Novant Hospital by his adoptive father on January 21, 2022 around noon. The child showed possible signs of neglect and was transported to Presbyterian Hospital for further treatment.

Human Relations Council modifies 2022 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration weekend

The Salisbury Human Relations Council (HRC) will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Weekend virtually in a similar format to the 2021 programming due to COVID-19. The 2022 theme, “Keep Moving Forward: United for Service, Peace and Equity,” will be incorporated into a number of weekend activities, Saturday, Jan.15 through Monday, Jan. 17.

Department of Justice awards Salisbury $800,000 for West End solutions

Salisbury Police, in collaboration with the city’s Parks and Recreation and Planning Departments, will receive nearly $1 million from the Department of Justice (DOJ) for crime prevention, recreational and public space development and youth programs in the West End. City Council is expected to adopt a budget ordinance at today’s meeting to accept the $800,000 Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program Grant. 

Employee Spotlight: P.J. Smith, Lieutenant

This month’s employee spotlight is Lieutenant P.J. Smith. He has more than 16 years of experience with the Salisbury Police Department. Lt. Smith has worked in various assignments to include: patrol officer, detective, patrol sergeant, and current position of lieutenant. In his current role, Lt. Smith is responsible for supervising vice narcotics, records department, Project Safe Neighborhood Program, and the Rowan Regional Crime Information Center (RRCIC).

Downtown Salisbury Inc. is inviting the public to provide input on the Downtown Salisbury Social District. The input sessions will focus on the Bring Business Back to Downtown Bill by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission that aims to increase economic vitality in North Carolina downtowns.
