Jill Burch, the late Paul Fisher and Matthew Marsh have been named winners of the 2021 Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Humanitarian Award. Downtown Salisbury is getting a new look. Salisbury City Council adopted the Downtown Main Street Plan at the Tuesday, March 16 Council meeting. Following multiple public opportunities for comment during design, the Downtown Main Street Plan consists of two phases to implement pedestrian and bicycle inclusion, landscaping, parking, infrastructure improvements, and transit mobility. Phase I transitional striping is set to begin summer 2021.
The Salisbury Public Art Committee invites artists of all ages and skillsets to submit their best designs for consideration for the first Salisbury Paint the Pavement Project. Entries will be accepted Thursday, April 1 through Friday, April 30. The installation date, also known as Paint the Pavement Day, will be Sunday, June 6.

Misty Fields is an accounting technician II for the City of Salisbury Finance Department. In her role, she monitors and prepares accounts payable (AP) to make sure vendors get paid accurately and in a timely manner. Misty also prepares employee payroll, submits monthly retirement information, and assists employees with questions regarding pay, deductions and benefits.

A host of community partners, including Rowan County, the City of Salisbury, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Rowan-Salisbury School System, the Rowan Chamber of Commerce, Rowan Economic Development, NCWorks and the Centralina Workforce Development Board, will hold a drive-thru community job fair on Friday, April 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at NCWorks Career Center located at 1904 S. Main Street. The fair is open to the public.
The City of Salisbury is currently accepting applications for the CDBG grant program, and will have a virtual public input meeting on March 29 at 4:00 p.m. The primary objective of the program is the development of viable communities by the provision of decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanded economic opportunities, principally for persons of low- and moderate-income.
