The Salisbury Police Department, in collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, apprehended five federal defendants Wednesday, May 1, and Thursday, May 2, as part of its efforts to address gun and drug violence in the City of Salisbury and surrounding areas.

Spring Clean ’19 event hopes to spur anti-litter campaign

In an effort to clean up litter throughout Salisbury, the city’s Community Appearance Commission (CAC) will host the first, community-wide Spring Clean ’19, Saturday, May 11, beginning at 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. Members of the CAC hope the one-day clean-up will start a focus on anti-litter.

The National Main Street Center has designated 46 North Carolina communities as accredited Main Street America™ programs for 2019, the North Carolina Department of Commerce announced today. Commerce’s Main Street & Rural Planning Center recognize communities demonstrating exemplary commitment to preservation-based economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach.

According to a report released by WalletHub, Salisbury was named the 16th best small city to start a business and tied for 1st in the highest average growth in number of small businesses.

Salisbury Police are currently investigating a shooting that took place yesterday evening at Brookview Apts on South Martin Luther King Jr Blvd in Salisbury. Police were notified of a potential shooting at the complex and that the victim was enroute to Novant Health Rowan in a private vehicle.

Salisbury Transit Reduces Operating Hours During Stay-At-Home Executive Order

As transit demands in the city shift due to the Governor’s stay-at-home Executive Order, Salisbury Transit will modify its operating hours beginning next week. Effective Monday, April 13, all routes will operate Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. Saturday service is suspended.

Transit officials will continue to suspend fare collections on all routes, as well as the maintain rear-door entry policy to help keep passengers and operators safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rear-door entry helps maintain at least six-feet of distance between drivers and passengers. Passengers with mobility devices such as wheelchairs and scooters, or who need the entry ramp to be lowered in order to board safely, will still be able to use the front door to enter and exit as needed.

Riders should review the current transit schedules for all routes. Standard arrival times and routes from 6 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. will remain the same. Route operations after 3:20 p.m. will cease.

All operational changes will remain in effect until further notice.
