The Salisbury Police Victim Advocacy division will honor local murder victims with its annual video tribute on the National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims, Monday, Sept. 25.

The City of Salisbury welcomes residents and visitors to a special “Meet the Chief” event, Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at City Park, 316 Lake Dr. There, new Salisbury Police Chief P.J. Smith will greet and engage with attendees about his vision for public safety in Salisbury.
Salisbury’s newest Fire Station will be located at 150 Mahaley Ave. The 19,400-square-foot fire station will include three drive-through apparatus bays, a Fire Safety Education and Community Outreach Center and the city’s Emergency Operations Center.
The city’s new fiscal year brought name and staffing changes to three city departments. The Engineering Department became the Transportation Department, Community Planning Services split into the Planning and Neighborhoods Department and the Land and Development Services Department. In addition, the Public Works Department now has two umbrellas under which its service areas fall – Maintenance and Environmental.
Salisbury proudly showcases its artistic flair with the annual Sculpture Show. This year includes 18 new sculptures crafted by talented artists hailing from across the eastern United States. The Public Arts Commission features sculptures throughout the downtown area, Salisbury’s 3 local colleges, Horizon’s Unlimited, and Trinity Oaks.
High school and college students in Salisbury have an opportunity to work in different City departments through the Summer Youth Employment program.
Salisbury City Manager Jim Greene has named Carrboro Town Manager Richard J. White III as Salisbury’s next deputy city manager.
For the fourth year in a row, the City of Salisbury is honored as one of the “Healthiest Employers” in the greater Charlotte region. The annual Charlotte Business Journal competition ranked Salisbury in second place in the “Employers with 50-499 employees” category.
