This month’s employee spotlight is Emily Vanek, a long-range planner for the City of Salisbury Planning Department. In her role, Emily works on historic preservation and long-range planning efforts such as the Forward 2040 Comprehensive Plan. On a day-to-day basis, she works with residents, property owners and developers to review their plans for consistency with the Local Historic Design Standards and Land Development Ordinance, and issues Certificates of Appropriateness. Emily serves as the staff liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission.

The Parks and Recreation Department is happy to announce that registration is currently open for youth athletic camps, and camps kickoff starting June 6th. Athletic camps include Youth Baseball, Girl’s Youth Volleyball, and Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball.
The City of Salisbury has been awarded the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) Certificate of Safety Achievement Third Consecutive Year Gold award.

The 25th Annual 5K for the Greenway -Run/Walk & Half-Mile Fun Run will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2022.
The location will be at Knox Middle School - 1625 Park Road West, Salisbury, NC 28144, with start times as follows: 5K-8:00 a.m., and Fun Run-8:45 a.m.

Summer Camp returns to the City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department on June 6th. We will have 9 weeks of camp, so choose one, choose two, or all nine! Camp cost includes field trips, camp shirt, and priceless amounts of F-U-N! Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the RSSS Summer Meals Program.

The City of Salisbury is currently accepting applications for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to aid in development needs within the City of Salisbury, NC. During the period between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023, the City will receive approximately $315,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME program dollars from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Citizen input is needed to help determine community development needs and priorities for the use of these funds in the coming year. Applications are due on April 20, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.
