Salisbury City Council today announced the appointment of W. Brian Hiatt as interim city manager on a part-time basis as the locality begins its permanent manager search. Hiatt retired as the city manager of Concord in spring 2018, and subsequently served as Salisbury’s interim community planning director for five months.
The Salisbury Police Department (SPD) is partnering with Gerry Wood Auto Dealership for the 20th Annual Christmas Bicycle Program. This program provides bicycles for less fortunate children in the City of Salisbury. It is our desire to give bikes to those who couldn't otherwise be able to receive this gift.

This month’s employee spotlight is Cyndi DeBonis, a Salisbury police officer. True to the motto of “Every officer has a neighborhood and every neighborhood has an officer,” Cyndi takes calls for service primarily in Zone three and assists officers in other zones. She also serves warrants and helps with traffic accidents.

Last night, at approximately 8 PM with the assistance of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department, the Salisbury Police Department Criminal Division Unit and Salisbury Police Department NCAT arrested Marshall Oliver Morefield (DOB-03-07-2003) for the shooting that occurred Saturday, October 23rd, 2021 in the 1200 block of West Bank St. Mr. Morefield was charged with Assault with Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. Mr. Morefield was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a$75,000.00 bond.
This month’s employee spotlight is Atalie Bare, a Senior Administrative Specialist for the City of Salisbury. In this role, she works as a part of the administration team in the clerk and mayor’s office. Atalie performs administrative duties and serves as a liaison between departments and the public daily. Prior to joining the administration team, she worked as a Customer Service Representative at the Salisbury Customer Service Center.
A host of community partners will hold a community job fair on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the West End Plaza located at 1935 Jake Alexander Blvd. The fair is open to the public.

Downtown Salisbury is in the running to capture a $25,000 cash prize in the “Independent We Stand,” Main Street small-business program. Salisbury residents, business owners and visitors are encouraged to vote for Downtown Salisbury in the quarterfinals at https://www.mainstreetcontest.com/nominees before Sunday, Nov. 7.
Sada Stewart Troutman will assume the role of Downtown Salisbury, Inc. (DSI)/Downtown Development Director, following a comprehensive candidate search. Her first day in the new role is Monday, Nov. 29.
