Know Your F.O.G. (Fats, Oils, Grease and Wax)

This Thanksgiving, as you whip up your holiday meal, chances are you will end up with leftover cooking oils and fat. It is important to learn the proper way to dispose of those oils. Pouring them down the drain can be hazardous to the environment and possibly, your pocket. F.O.G. sticks to the inside of sewer pipes when cooled, causing constricted flow and blocked pipes. It’s essential to ensure your home plumbing and sewer lines don’t get clogged.

Cheerwine Festival Announces Band List

Salisbury is preparing to celebrate its favorite hometown soft drink during the Cheerwine Festival, Saturday, May 19, in downtown Salisbury from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cheerwine fans will enjoy great Southern food, shopping for Cheerwine merchandise, a Kids’ Zone, a beer garden and local craft vendors, thanks to sponsors, F&M Bank and Hotwire Communications.

No festival is complete without rockin’ live music. Several bands are scheduled to perform throughout the day at the Festival:

Cassette Rewind, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Gump Fiction, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Travers Brothership, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Jive Mother Mary, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Sister Hazel, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

In 2017, Cheerwine commemorated its 100th birthday by inviting fans of all ages to its “Centennial Celebration” in Salisbury. With plenty of Cheerwine, live music and a barbecue contest, more than 30,000 people packed the streets of Salisbury.
Follow the Cheerwine Festival event page on Facebook for more details or visit salisburync.gov/Cheerwine.
