Rowan County / Red Cross Shelter to Open Tonight - Salisbury, NC

Due to increased evacuations across the county, The Red Cross will open a shelter at J.F. Hurley YMCA located at828 W Jake Alexander Blvd Salisbury for residents of Rowan County who are in imminent threat of danger or have been directed by Public Officials. This Shelter will open at 9:30 PM on this date September 16th 2018.

Please bring blankets, pillows, medications, and any other special needs equipment.

On September 13, 2018 Cody Maxwell Schimmels (W/M 03/11/1988) of Salisbury was released from Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and was placed under arrest by the Salisbury Police Department for the incident that happened at the Salisbury Harris Teeter store on 7/12/2018.

Downtown Salisbury, Inc. and the City of Salisbury have cancelled the Downtown Salisbury Brewbury Fest and Crawl scheduled for this Friday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 15 in Downtown Salisbury due to the forecasted impact of Hurricane Florence in Rowan County.

Salisbury Police Department recognizes upcoming retirements

The Salisbury Police Department recognizes four officers who have planned retirements set for the end of the 2017 calendar year.

Captain Sheila Lingle will retire from the Salisbury Police Department on Sunday, Dec. 31, with 30 years of service. Captain Lingle led the department’s criminal investigations function and community outreach. Captain Lingle also served as the department PIO. She was one of the first female officers to reach the rank of captain in the department.

Lieutenant Jeffrey Wilkerson will retire from the Salisbury Police Department on Sunday, Dec. 31, after 20 years of service. Lt. Wilkerson led a patrol team during his time as a lieutenant, and he also served as a patrol team sergeant, Drug Unit sergeant, and K-9 officer.

Officer Brad Jordan will retire from the Salisbury Police Department on Sunday, Dec. 31, as a patrol officer. Officer Jordan has 30 years of law enforcement service, and also served as a traffic officer and member of the Special Response Team.

Officer Annice Chunn will retire from the Salisbury Police Department on Sunday, Dec. 31, after 10 years of service. Officer Chunn is best known in the community for her time serving as the Community Relations Officer where she aided neighborhood watch organizations, worked with the SPD Cadets, and coordinated many department community programs.
