She started her career with the Salisbury Police Department in 1980. She served in many roles including patrol officer, D. A. R. E. Officer and Community Service Officer, Police K-9 handler, and patrol sergeant. Karen was named NC Police Women’s Officer of the Year in 1989. She retired as a lieutenant and returned in July 2017 to work part-time on the Remedial Action Plan. Read more
