Self-Help Offers Creative New Loan Program to Help Traditionally Underserved Borrowers

It takes a village - unique microfinancing program enables women and minority-owned small businesses to receive loans up to $15K

Self-Help Credit Union, (www.self-help.org) now offers an exciting program that expands safe and affordable loan options for small business borrowers who may not have access to traditional resources. Through a partnership with the cities of Salisbury and Statesville and Livingstone College we are able to offer a creative new way for businesses owned by women and people of color to finance loans up to $15,000.

Homicide on Wilson Road 3-22-2021

The Salisbury Police Department was dispatched to 703 Wilson Rd, Salisbury, in reference to a gunshot. Upon arrival, officers located Grover Franklin Jones Jr, 32 years old, who had sustained one gunshot. Jones was transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives are on scene and currently investigating the incident. Anyone with information please contact Detective McElveen at 704-638-5333.

Salisbury Police Department Officer Arrested 3-14-21

An off-duty Salisbury Police Officer turned himself in this morning following charges by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office on one count of breaking and entering, one count of simple assault, one count of assault on a female, and one count of interfering with calling 911, stemming from an incident late Saturday, March 13. Officer Malik Byrd has been placed on administrative leave with pay from his duties pending further inquiry by the SPD Professional Standards Unit.

Missing Connections At Dixonville-Lincoln Memorial

As the Dixonville-Lincoln Memorial Project ends phase two, Task Force members are seeking assistance in identifying individuals who may have been buried in the Dixonville Cemetery located on Old Concord Road.

Salisbury Police Statement Regarding K9 Officer Zuul 3-5-2021

We appreciate your concern for K-9 Officer Zuul. He was removed from the handler’s care when we were made aware of this incident. Zuul was taken to a veterinarian on Thursday, March 4th, for a checkup (*edited) and received a clean bill of health. He is in good hands, happy and healthy, and taking some time off.

Salisbury Police Statement Regarding K9 Officer Training 3-2-2021

The Salisbury Police Department is aware of the video that has been provided to the media depicting a Salisbury officer during canine training but cannot comment in detail because it is an ongoing personnel matter. In accordance with policy, SPD’s review of and response to this matter is and will continue to be thorough and fair so as to provide due process to everyone involved. SPD can confirm that, as a matter of course, the officer has been administratively separated from the canine while SPD conducts its review. The canine was not harmed and is healthy and being well-cared-for.

COVID-19 Cancellations, Postponements and Closings for City of Salisbury

To help aid preventative measures of spreading COVID-19, and following the guidance of recent coronavirus advisories provided by federal, state and Rowan County Public Health and other agencies, there will be closings, postponements and cancellations. FACILITIES/BUILDINGS

The Customer Service Center's lobby is NOW OPEN. Please take note of changes, certain doors are entrance or exit only. We still encourage alternative methods of payment, such as calling, using our website or the drop-off boxes.
All Parks and Recreation facilities, basketball courts, park shelters, parks and greenways are OPEN - playgrounds are CLOSED, and the tennis courts are CLOSED for construction (practice social distancing while outside)
The Salisbury Police Department is CLOSED TO WALK-INS but still providing services (click here for details)
City Hall is CLOSED. Please call for service (salisburync.gov/COVID-19)
Salisbury Transit is SUSPENDING bus services on Saturday until further notice, starting 3/28/2020 (click here for full Transit schedules) Regular service is expected to resume on August 3, 2020.

Salisbury Transit will suspend fare collections on all routes effective Tuesday, March 31 (click here for full d etails)

The City of Salisbury has temporarily suspended all utility disconnections. This includes water, trash and recycling.

Public Works is suspending some services, and offering reduced services in other ares. Trash, recycling and yard waste collection will continue as normal (click here for full details)
