The City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation will offer summer camps for children this year. Summer camp programs will be conducted with COVID-19 safety protocols in place and will follow recommendations from the CDC, state and local health officials.

This release is issued jointly by the Salisbury Fire Department and Millers Ferry Fire Department. On May 21, 2021 at 1030 pm the Miller’s Ferry Fire Department, Salisbury Fire Department, Churchland Fire Department, Rowan County Rescue Squad, Davidson County EMS, and Rowan County EMS were dispatched to the Yadkin River Bridge above Southbound I-85 for a report of a person that had jumped/ fallen off of the bridge.

Steve Myers is the mail coordinator for the City of Salisbury. His role focuses on support services for the City and includes receiving, processing and delivering mail, packages and supplies. Although he receives and delivers packages to departments from FedEx, UPS, Amazon and USPS, Steve also transports interdepartmental mail for City departments.

Salisbury Police investigating two shooting incidents

Salisbury Police are investigating two incidents of gun violence within its city limits Wednesday evening, May 26.

The first incident was a report of shots fired at 6:40 p.m., in the area of 410 West 15th St. Upon arrival, officers were told that the driver of a black Jeep with a damaged front headlight, shot a gun several times. No visible signs of damage to the nearby apartments or any spent shell casings could be found. A Be On the Lookout (BOLO) was issued.

Pedestrian struck by Salisbury Police officer has died

The pedestrian who was struck by a Salisbury patrol officer, Tuesday, May 18, has died.

Howard Miller, 59, of East Spencer died from his injuries Friday, May 21. Salisbury Police is awaiting results of the full wreck investigation from the State Highway Patrol, which conducted the investigation.

Fitch Ratings affirms rating for Salisbury’s water and sewer bonds

Fitch Ratings has assigned an 'AA-' rating to the City of Salisbury’s $39.9 million combined enterprise system revenue bonds, series 2020. In addition, Fitch Ratings assessed the city’s water and sewer system’s (the system) Standalone Credit Profile (SCP) at ‘aa-‘. The rating outlook is stable.

A press release issued by Fitch Ratings, the analytical conclusions stated “the system's operating risk profile is supported by a very low operating cost burden with elevated life cycle investment needs. Revenue defensibility reflects largely affordable rates, offset by stable demographic characteristics. The system is highly concentrated yet most customers are stable municipal and public entities.”

Key factors cited that contributed to the City’s credit ratings include:

Revenue Defensibility: Affordable Rates; Concentrated Economy.

The revenue defensibility assessment reflects the system's independent legal ability to set rates which are affordable for most customers, with stable service area characteristics. Service territory concentration concerns are somewhat mitigated by stable, long-standing customers.

Operating Risks: Very Low Operating Cost Burden; Stable Capital Plan.

The system's operating risks assessment takes into consideration a very low operating cost burden, with elevated life cycle investment needs, likely reflecting the system's preference for maintenance over replacement. Capital spending to support renewal and replacement needs is considered weak.

Financial Profile: Very Strong Financial Profile.

Declining leverage observed the past four fiscal years rose in fiscal 2020 with debt issuance, but is expected to fall again in Fitch's scenario analysis. Leverage is expected to remain below 3x. The liquidity profile is considered neutral to the assessment.
