In 2016, Alyssa Nelson joined the City of Salisbury as an urban design planner. In her role, she works on long range community design projects to improve the quality of life and vibrancy of Salisbury, including the BlockWork program, Dixonville-Lincoln Memorial Project and Salisbury Sculpture Show.

Downtown Salisbury, Inc. (DSI) has released a request for proposals (RFP) to qualified developers to purchase and redevelop the historic Empire Hotel located in downtown Salisbury. The newly-established Empire Hotel Redevelopment Task Force will be responsible for reviewing the proposals received electronically by the deadline of 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.
The 2020 Census deadline is just days away, Wednesday, Sept. 30, and the current Rowan County response rate is below that of the 2010 rate. For every Rowan County resident who does not respond to the 2020 Census, the county loses $1,823 per person.
