The upcoming Hurley Park Butterfly Release on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m., is a great event at which to learn about Monarch butterflies and other butterfly species, their migration, and milkweed (their host plant). Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to find a good seat as the release happens quickly. Food trucks will be available for food purchase.

Pets give us unconditional love, but their waste certainly does not. Contrary to some thinking, pet feces is not a fertilizer for soil or plants, and quite the opposite of good intentions can occur. Pet “poop” can affect stormwater quality by running off into storm drains and in to streams, creating potential algae blooms and affecting water toxicity.

Boy’s Basketball League (ages 7-12)

Registration is open!

Boy's Basketball League (ages 7-12):

This is a youth basketball league for boys ages 7-12 (age groups: 7-8, 9-10 & 11-12) that focuses on building character, teamwork, and fundamental basketball skills. Teams will be assigned by a pre-season placement draft for ages 7-12.

Registration:

Registration runs till October 21, register at www.salisburync.gov/play or in person at Hall Gym located at 1400-B W. Bank St. Salisbury, NC.

Fee: $40 per participant

Practices:

Practices will start the week of November 6 (once per week) and games will start Dec. 1 & 2 and into January (once or twice per week). Practices will continue once per week through the season. The league fee covers games, a basketball clinic, and a reversible mesh jersey.
