The City of Salisbury Public Works Department will conduct its annual cemetery cleanup and flower removal next week Monday, Feb. 3 through Friday, Feb. 7 in all City-owned cemeteries, including Chestnut Hill, Oakwood, Memorial Park, Old Lutheran, Union Hill/Oakdale, Old English, and Dixonville. Large blue signs have been posted in the cemeteries for approximately two months to inform visitors of the upcoming event.
“Our annual cleanup helps preserve the dignity and beauty of our cemeteries while making sure our maintenance crews can work safely,” said Lindsey Stegall, Cemetery Administrator. “We appreciate the public’s cooperation and understanding as we carry out these important guidelines. Maintaining a respectful and orderly environment at our cemeteries is one of our top priorities.”
Cemeteries are places of remembrance and reflection and maintaining them is essential to preserving a sense of dignity. By removing outdated or unsafe items on a routine basis, the structural integrity of headstones and markers is protected, and the surrounding landscaping is maintained. This process also ensures the safety of visitors and the maintenance staff who work diligently to keep the grounds accessible and secure.
