Indie alt-rock band Neon Trees to headline this year’s Cheerwine Festival

The South’s favorite soda releases full entertainment lineup

Cheerwine, the iconic 106-year-old cherry soda, and the City of Salisbury will welcome multi-platinum rockers Neon Trees to the Hotwire Communication Stage as the 2023 Cheerwine Festival music headliner. This year’s Cheerwine Festival will be held Saturday, May 20, from noon to 10 p.m.

Salisbury Police Department Hosts Youth Violence Prevention Event

The Salisbury Police Department will host a Youth Violence Prevention Day on Saturday, April 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. in honor of National Youth Violence Prevention Week. The event kicks off with a march followed by remarks from community partners.

The City of Salisbury Fire Department, Salisbury Police Department, and the Salisbury-Rowan NAACP are partnering to launch the Collecting Kindness Homeless Donation Drive. The goal of the drive is to collect essential items for people experiencing homelessness.

E. Innes Street Bank Robbery Statement

On Thursday, May 31 at approximately 12:36 p.m. a person entered the First National Bank at 322 E. Innes Street in Salisbury and robbed the location of an undisclosed amount of money. Officers were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle and engaged in a multi-jursidictional vehicle pursuit, which led them to 1101 Mendenhall Street in the City of Thomasville.

Once the vehicle turned onto Mendenhall Street, the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee into Anderson RC Hobby Shop.

A citizen attempted to stop the suspect from entering the store. The suspect produced a knife and stabbed the citizen multiple times. The officers then confronted the suspect and more than one officer used their taser to take the suspect in to custody. The tasers proved ineffective. The suspect still in possession of the knife, was shot by a Salisbury Police Officer. An additional suspect is being treated at the hospital for an unrelated medical issue.

The identity of the suspect shot is currently being verified.
