City To Begin Budget Process For FY2022-2023

City departments will begin their budget process later this month in preparation for the upcoming fiscal year. Fiscal Year 2023 (FY2023) is the city’s budget year that will run from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. The adopted budget ordinance will set the new tax rate and city fees.

Cold temperatures can cause water pipes to freeze. The City of Salisbury encourages residents to start thinking about the possibility of pipes freezing in your home. Frozen water pipes are a problem that can happen in homes with both plastic and copper pipes. Take steps to protect your water pipes from freezing and avoid significant property damage.

On Saturday, January 22, the Salisbury Police Department was made aware that a nonresponsive child was brought to Novant Hospital by his adoptive father on January 21, 2022 around noon. The child showed possible signs of neglect and was transported to Presbyterian Hospital for further treatment.

The Salisbury Human Relations Council (HRC) will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Weekend virtually in a similar format to the 2021 programming due to COVID-19. The 2022 theme, “Keep Moving Forward: United for Service, Peace and Equity,” will be incorporated into a number of weekend activities, Saturday, Jan.15 through Monday, Jan. 17.

NCDOT Announces Special Train Stops for N.C. Transportation Museum Event

NC By Train making stops in Salisbury for aDay Out with Thomas ™

The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Rail Division announced today that NC By Train, the state’s passenger rail service, will make special stops in Salisbury for a Day Out With Thomas ™ at the N.C. Transportation Museum.

A Day Out With Thomas ™ runs Sept. 22 – 24 and Sept. 29 – Oct. 1. On Saturday and Sunday both weekends, Piedmont Train 71 from Raleigh to Salisbury and Piedmont Train 76 from Salisbury to Raleigh will make special stops at the Salisbury station at 8:45 a.m. and 6:11 p.m. respectively. A shuttle will be provided by the museum on those days to get passengers riding those trains to and from the Salisbury (Train) Station and the museum in nearby Spencer.

People wishing to ride the train are encouraged to book their tickets soon at NCByTrain.org because seats are limited, and the service continues to be a popular option for travelers. NC By Train experienced its highest ridership ever in 2022 and the service’s 2023 numbers continue to break records.

The state’s passenger rail service is an easy, hassle-free way to travel whether you’re headed to the N.C. Transportation Museum or many other fall events, festivals and sporting events. Children under two ride for free and children under 12 are 50% off every day.
