City, DSI end exclusive negotiations with Empire Hotel developer

City officials and the Downtown Salisbury, Inc. (DSI) Board of Directors ended exclusive negotiations with Empire Hotel Holdings, LLC, and its development arm, Black Point Investments, LLC, to redevelop the Empire Hotel. The end of the exclusivity means that DSI and the City of Salisbury are available to explore additional redevelopment options for the site.

Israel Vazquez was employed in parks and recreation in 2011, before transitioning to public works. As part of the parks and recreation team, he assisted with maintenance of parks and special projects such as building the roof on the baseball dugout at Salisbury Community Park.

Homes In Some Local Historic Districts Eligible For Grant Money

The City of Salisbury is now accepting applications for our FY 2020-2021 Historic Preservation Incentive (HPI) Grant Program. These matching grants, up to $2,500, are available on a competitive basis for exterior projects on owner-occupied homes in Salisbury’s four residential local historic districts: Ellis Street Graded School, Brooklyn South Square, North Main, and West Square. Low/moderate income homeowners may be eligible for a larger award.

Salisbury receives $543,000 Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant from the National Park Service

Funds will help restore commercial properties in the downtown

The City of Salisbury today was awarded a $543,000 Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant by the National Park Service (NPS) to support the preservation of downtown Salisbury’s historic buildings.

City of Salisbury provides operation schedule for the 2023 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday

The City of Salisbury will operate on the following schedule for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, Monday, Jan. 16:

• City office buildings, including the Salisbury Customer Service Center and all recreation centers, will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
• The city’s public works department will offer its regular garbage and recycling collection on Monday, Jan. 16. The department will not offer limb or leaf collection on Monday, Jan. 16. Collection will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Limb and leaf collection for the week is anticipated to be completed on Friday, Jan. 20.
• Salisbury Transit will operate on its regular schedule of 6 a.m. to 7:08 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16.
• Salisbury-Rowan Utilities’ administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16. If you have a water/sewer emergency after hours or during the holiday, please call (704) 638-5339.
• The Salisbury Community Park will operate on schedule from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16.
• The police and fire departments will remain available for emergency services, as usual, during the holiday.
