The City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation will offer summer camps for children this year. Summer camp programs will be conducted with COVID-19 safety protocols in place and will follow recommendations from the CDC, state and local health officials.

This release is issued jointly by the Salisbury Fire Department and Millers Ferry Fire Department. On May 21, 2021 at 1030 pm the Miller’s Ferry Fire Department, Salisbury Fire Department, Churchland Fire Department, Rowan County Rescue Squad, Davidson County EMS, and Rowan County EMS were dispatched to the Yadkin River Bridge above Southbound I-85 for a report of a person that had jumped/ fallen off of the bridge.

Employee Spotlight: Steve Myers, Mail Coordinator

Steve Myers is the mail coordinator for the City of Salisbury. His role focuses on support services for the City and includes receiving, processing and delivering mail, packages and supplies. Although he receives and delivers packages to departments from FedEx, UPS, Amazon and USPS, Steve also transports interdepartmental mail for City departments.

Salisbury Police investigating two shooting incidents

Salisbury Police are investigating two incidents of gun violence within its city limits Wednesday evening, May 26.

The first incident was a report of shots fired at 6:40 p.m., in the area of 410 West 15th St. Upon arrival, officers were told that the driver of a black Jeep with a damaged front headlight, shot a gun several times. No visible signs of damage to the nearby apartments or any spent shell casings could be found. A Be On the Lookout (BOLO) was issued.

Pedestrian struck by Salisbury Police officer has died

The pedestrian who was struck by a Salisbury patrol officer, Tuesday, May 18, has died.

Howard Miller, 59, of East Spencer died from his injuries Friday, May 21. Salisbury Police is awaiting results of the full wreck investigation from the State Highway Patrol, which conducted the investigation.

Be The Difference, Be A Remedial Action Plan Coordinator - Employee Spotlight: Karen Barbee

This month’s employee spotlight is Karen Barbee, the City of Salisbury’s Remedial Action Plan Coordinator. She started her career with the Salisbury Police Department in 1980. She served in many roles including patrol officer, D. A. R. E. Officer and Community Service Officer, Police K-9 handler, and patrol sergeant. Karen was named NC Police Women’s Officer of the Year in 1989. She retired as a lieutenant and returned in July 2017 to work part-time on the Remedial Action Plan.

In her role, Karen collaborates with Code Enforcement and the Police Department to address disorderly activities within rental residential properties. She works with landlords and property managers dealing with criminal issues on their properties, while also ensuring the maintenance of an updated database.

“My favorite part is interacting with my co-workers. I also enjoy providing customer service and working directly with the citizens of Salisbury. I love my work because it makes a difference in resolving neighborhood issues.”
