Downtown Main Street Plan input window begins wind down

City officials will begin adjusting the draft Downtown Main Street Plan based on public feedback in preparation for a presentation to City Council, Tuesday, March 2. The next draft of the plan will be released during the week of Feb. 22.

Due to inclement weather Salisbury Transit will be operating on a 1 hour delay on 2/18/21. The fixed route and ADA Paratransit service will began transporting passengers at 7:10 a.m. instead of our regular start time of 6:00 a.m.

As temperatures continue to dip, we encourage residents to start thinking about the possibility of pipes freezing in your home. Frozen water pipes are a problem that can happen in homes with both plastic and copper pipes. Take steps to protect your water pipes from freezing and avoid significant property damage.

Vaccine Clinics Move to Appointment-Based Model

In a letter released today from Public Health Director Nina Oliver, the Health Department will move to an appointment-based model for vaccines beginning with its first-dose clinic scheduled for Wednesday, January 27. Vaccine allocations from the state remain low at this time, so Director Oliver urged eligible but healthy and willing citizens to hold off vying for the appointment slots until more are available, or for citizens who are Novant Health patients to focus attempts to seek a vaccination through their clinic.

The date for the 2021 Cheerwine Festival will move from Saturday, May 15, to Saturday, Sept. 18, in anticipation of reductions in COVID-19 restrictions and continued distribution of the vaccine.

Salisbury Police Department and Rowan County United Way Announce Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Grant Celebration

The Salisbury Police Department and Rowan County United Way are proud to announce the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) Grant Celebration to honor the achievements accomplished through the Summer West End programs. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, April 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hall Gym, 1400 W. Bank St., Ste. B.

The event will recognize the dedication and contributions of various organizations and individuals who participated in the Summer West End program. Grant recipients will have the opportunity to share their success stories, highlight program outcomes, and connect with community members.

“This celebration is about acknowledging the remarkable impact these organizations and community partners have made,” said Salisbury Police Chief Patrick Smith. “We encourage everyone to come together, learn about the impressive work done over the summer, and explore ways to build upon these successes for our city’s future.”

Jenny Lee, Executive Director of Rowan County United Way, emphasized the importance of community partnerships in achieving meaningful results: “This celebration highlights the strong collaboration among local organizations working to better our community. It has been an honor for us at Rowan County United Way to administer the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Grant programs and witness firsthand the positive impact on West End residents. We look forward to continuing our support and advancing these crucial initiatives.”
