The Salisbury Fire Department will host a “Weathering the Storm – Emergency & Safety Preparedness Fair,” designed to provide residents with information on how to prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies, Saturday, March 21, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salisbury Civic Center.
Three local, public-spirited personalities were honored with the 2020 Elizabeth Duncan Koontz (EDK) Humanitarian Award, given by the Salisbury Human Relations Council. Greg Alcorn, Annie Bates and Char Molrine were the featured guests at the annual EDK dinner on Thursday, Feb. 27.

Beginning on Monday, March 9, the Salisbury VA Health Care System (HCS) will only allow vehicle traffic through its Hedrick St. gate for COVID-19 (coronavirus) screenings. Per a news release “all persons entering any Salisbury VA HCS property will be screened for the COVID-19 virus. Please allow extra time to ensure that you arrive at your appointment on time.” As a result, all Brenner Avenue drivers can expect major delays.
From New York to Salisbury, Anthony Dito considers himself a true Salisburian. He has been employed with the City of Salisbury Public Works Department for more than 20 years. As part of the waste division, his duties include operating the garbage truck for curbside collection services removing residential garbage and yard waste. During inclement weather, Anthony also assists with snow removal.

The City of Salisbury today asked for help from President Trump, North Carolina’s U.S. Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis, Congressmen Ted Budd and Richard Hudson, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (called FERC), Governor Roy Cooper, and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (or DEQ). The City Council by resolution requested that the State of North Carolina and the United States government immediately require the implementation of flood protection measures the State and Federal Government mandated in 2015 and 2016 to prevent the disruption and destruction of infrastructure that is essential for the operation of Salisbury’s water supply system.
The Salisbury-Rowan Sports Hall of Fame was created in 2001 to honor individuals, living or deceased, who are native to, or have worked or performed in Rowan County.
