Traffic Advisory: Mocksville Ave.

Duke Energy contractors will begin infrastructure upgrade work along Mocksville Avenue starting Tuesday, Jan. 13. The work is expected to take approximately seven days to complete and will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Anticipated work zone will be along Mocksville Avenue from Rutherford Street to approximately 150 feet past the intersection of Confederate Avenue and Mocksville Avenue. Motorists should use caution and watch for crews in the area.

Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander will lead the N.C. League of Municipalities as president over the next year, following her election earlier this week.

Alexander was chosen by representatives from cities and towns across North Carolina via electronic vote held over several days, with her selection announced at NCLM’s virtual conference, CityVision 2021, held Tuesday through Thursday.

Three to receive 2021 Koontz Humanitarian Award

Jill Burch, the late Paul Fisher and Matthew Marsh have been named winners of the 2021 Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Humanitarian Award. The trio will be honored during a virtual presentation today, Thursday, April 8, at 5:30 p.m. via the Salisbury Human Relations Council Facebook page and on WSRG-TV -- Fision Channel 394 and Spectrum Channel 16.

Salisbury Commits Support to Operation HOPE’s New 1 Million Black Businesses Initiative

Today, Thursday, April 8, Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander, in partnership with other Rowan County business leaders, formally announced a commitment by City Council to support Operation HOPE’s 1 Million Black Businesses Initiative (1MBB). In partnership with Shopify, 1MBB is aimed at giving 1 million Black entrepreneurs and small-business owners the tools and support they need to succeed.

New Look For Downtown

Downtown Salisbury is getting a new look. Salisbury City Council adopted the Downtown Main Street Plan at the Tuesday, March 16 Council meeting. Following multiple public opportunities for comment during design, the Downtown Main Street Plan consists of two phases to implement pedestrian and bicycle inclusion, landscaping, parking, infrastructure improvements, and transit mobility. Phase I transitional striping is set to begin summer 2021.
