Salisbury Police Report - Homicide 05/15/2019

At approximately 4:45 on May 14, 2019 Rowan County 911 received a call from a driver who advised that his passenger had been shot and that he was enroute to the hospital with the victim. Officers responded to Novant Rowan Medical Center and confirmed that a subject had arrived at the facility with multiple gunshot wounds. Detectives were able to get a detailed description of a suspect and also the vehicle that the suspect was driving.

     Salisbury is set to host the Third Annual Cheerwine Festival, named after its favorite hometown soft drink, this upcoming Saturday, May 18, in downtown Salisbury from noon to 10 p.m. Cheerwine fans will enjoy great Southern food, shopping for Cheerwine merchandise, the F&M Bank Kids Zone, the Food Lion Carolina Brands Sampling Area, a beer garden and local craft vendors.

 The Salisbury Citizen’s Academy, a 10-week academy in which residents learn firsthand about city operations, is now accepting applications for class members. The Citizen’s Academy, now in its sixth year, is held on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 8 p.m. beginning Thursday, Sept. 5 through Thursday, Nov. 7. 

BlockWork Project Accepting Applications for 2019

BlockWork is a grass-roots program developed in 2010 by the Community Appearance Commission’s Neighborhood Leaders Alliance (NLA).

The Salisbury Community Appearance Commission and Salisbury Housing Advocacy Commission will be accepting BlockWork applications from Salisbury city neighborhoods beginning now through Friday, June 14. The 2019 BlockWork event has been set for Saturday, October 26, on, “National Make a Difference Day.” 

Salisbury PD arrests five indicted defendants in undercover drug, gun investigations

The Salisbury Police Department, in collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, apprehended five federal defendants Wednesday, May 1, and Thursday, May 2, as part of its efforts to address gun and drug violence in the City of Salisbury and surrounding areas.

Greenway, Bicycle & Pedestrian committee meeting

The Greenway, Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee’s mission is to create a safe, connected, and accessible network of bike lanes, sidewalks, and greenways to encourage walking and cycling for transportation, recreation, and health benefits. To advocate for infrastructure improvements, policies, programs, and grants that prioritize alternative modes of transportation for the Salisbury Community. To promote collaboration and partnerships among city and county officials, and staff; tourism; advocacy groups; and the community to insure buy-in and support from the broader constituents. With a goal to integrate new pedestrian and bicycle plans and policy recommendations with existing efforts at local, county, and regional levels.
