Not all children who want to be a firefighter as a youngster will grow up to become one. Career aspirations change. Life happens. Circumstances require a different course. Or they don’t make the cut. But for these 10 people, the Salisbury Fire Department (SFD) Firefighter Graduation is the culmination of a lifelong dream.

The city’s public services department has begun its yard waste compost giveaway at its Grants Greek Compost Facility, where anyone can pickup free, high-quality compost generated from last year’s curb-side yard waste.

Salisbury Transit pairs with Livingstone for Weekend Express Routes

Salisbury Transit and Livingstone College created a partnership that would allow all Livingstone students, faculty and staff to ride the Weekend Express, as well as the Monday through Friday routes, for free. All that is required is a valid Livingstone ID. The city's TV show, Salisbury NOW, has provided a video explaining the services.

SPD Temporarily suspends Ride-A-Long program

Attention: The Salisbury Police Department has temporarily suspended their departmental rider program. For the time being, we are focusing our efforts on our new recruits to ensure they are our primary focus for the field training officers. An announcement will be made when this suspension has been lifted.

Salisbury in Negotiations for Fibrant lease agreement

The Salisbury City Council has adopted a resolution authorizing submission of a Fibrant lease proposal to Salisbury voters for a vote in May. The City of Salisbury is in negotiations to enter into a lease agreement with Hotwire Communications, a privately-owned fiber optics telecommunications provider, to provide services over the City’s fiber network.

Catawba, Livingstone Colleges partner with Fibrant, Parks and Recreation to provide guest instruction during spring Girls Who Code Club

Two Salisbury higher educational institutions, Catawba College and Livingstone College, will assist with guest instruction of the Salisbury Girls Who Code Club (GWC) spring session. The partnership is the first of its kind where the local educational organizations have joined forces with city departments to instruct public, private and home-school youth together on a STEM-related project.
