On Saturday, August 10, 2024, at approximately 5:30 AM, the Salisbury Police Department responded to a shots fired call at 128 Rowan Mill Rd.
The victim who was pronounced deceased at the scene has been identified as Charles William, an 80-year-old resident of Salisbury. The child, who was also injured in this incident remains in the ICU in critical condition at a local hospital.
The combined Human Relations Commission Back-to-School Community Resource Fair and Salisbury Police Department National Night Out event, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Aug. 13, 6 p.m. at Bell Tower Green due to anticipated rain.

The West End Salisbury Transformed Empowered Neighborhood Development (WEST END) Byrne Criminal Justice Initiative (BCJI) local grant awardees have been announced. Salisbury agencies participating in the “Summer Youth and Family Capacity Program” are local, non-profit organizations developing community-led initiatives and programs that are youth and family-focused. Recipients will receive grants of up to $20,000.
On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at approximately 10:03 PM, the Salisbury Police Department responded to 1205 South Main Street in reference to an individual who had sustained a gunshot wound. Arriving Officers located two females and one infant that had sustained gunshot wounds.
The Salisbury Police Department is partnering with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® Delta Xi Omega Chapter to host a free Mental Health Fair, Saturday, May 4, at Bell Tower Green, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 12 service agencies are expected to provide mental health resources to Fair attendees in recognition of National Mental Health Month.

The WEST END Byrne Criminal Justice Initiative (BCJI) Grant Coordinator Chanel Nestor submitted her resignation to Police Chief PJ Smith on Tuesday, April 16. Nestor was a coordinator for the Salisbury Police Department (SPD) for 18 months, managing the WEST END Grant project in the community’s West End.
