In an effort to fill a variety of staff vacancies within the organization, the city of Salisbury launches its “Be The Difference” recruitment campaign this week.
A draft of the city’s comprehensive plan is now available for public review and feedback through in-person meetings, virtually, and on the city website at salisburync.gov/forward2040.
On November 13, 2022, at approximately 1:48 AM, the Salisbury Police Department was dispatched to 416 Messner St in reference to a shooting. Arriving Officers located a Juvenile that had sustained a gunshot. The juvenile was transported to Novant Medical Center for medical treatment.
Salisbury Police Chief Jerome “Jerry” Stokes announced his intention to retire from the city of Salisbury effective, Saturday, Dec. 31. He was hired to lead the Salisbury Police Department (SPD) in July 2016 after a 32-year career with the Lynchburg, Va. Police Department.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Livingstone College family and the victims of the incident that occurred on campus late yesterday evening. Five murals were completed over the weekend as part of the Salisbury Public Arts Commission and Downtown Salisbury’s “Paint the Pavement” art initiative. The crosswalk art installations, at the intersections of Lee and Kerr Streets, were selected in 2021 but were put on hold due to a paint shortage.
