A shoplifting suspect was injured today during a bicycle and vehicle pursuit involving Salisbury Police Department (SPD) officers in the 300 block of Arlington Street.
Road closures, detours expected along South Fulton, West Horah, Main, Fisher Streets
Salisbury will serve as the backdrop for an upcoming Hallmark Movie beginning next week. The production may affect travel near Salisbury High School, homes along the 400 block of South Fulton Street, and the 100 block of East Fisher Street, Tuesday, June 28 through Friday, July 1. Intermittent road closures also may occur on Saturday, July 2 along South Fulton Street. Detour signage will be in place.
The City of Salisbury will operate on a limited schedule for the Juneteenth holiday, Monday, June 20.

Beginning today, Wed., June 15, the City of Salisbury invites residents to apply for the fall 2022 Citizen’s Academy -- a ten-week academy that provides a behind-the-scenes look at city operations.
The Salisbury Police Department, in partnership with Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department, Salisbury Community Planning Department and Salisbury-Rowan NAACP, will conduct surveys throughout the West End community for the West End Salisbury Transformed Empowered Neighborhood Development (WEST END) project. The WEST END project is made possible by an $800,000 Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) grant from the Department of Justice.

This month’s employee spotlight is Joseph Myers. He has been employed with the City of Salisbury Transit Department for five years serving as a transit operator and ADA dispatcher. As part of his ADA paratransit role, Joseph schedules and then provides transportation services to eligible, disabled citizens from their homes to a specific location.
The Salisbury Police Department will hold the 2022 Free Summer Crime Scene Camp on June 22 and July 20 at the Old YMCA located at 220 North Fulton Street. This one-day camp is for anyone between the age of 11 and 15 yrs old. The camp starts at 8 am and will end at 1 pm with Lunch provided. The camp will provide a hands-on experience and allow participants to experience what is required of a crime scene Officer.
Free movie and music series takes place at Bell Tower Green
Lights! Camera! Action! And Music! Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department presents Reels and Riffs, a movie and music series at Bell Tower Green. Community members are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks to the free shows sponsored by Salisbury Parks and Recreation, Visit Rowan County and Downtown Salisbury Inc.
This month’s employee spotlight is Emily Vanek, a long-range planner for the City of Salisbury Planning Department. In her role, Emily works on historic preservation and long-range planning efforts such as the Forward 2040 Comprehensive Plan. On a day-to-day basis, she works with residents, property owners and developers to review their plans for consistency with the Local Historic Design Standards and Land Development Ordinance, and issues Certificates of Appropriateness. Emily serves as the staff liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission.
